Ontopic A Thread About Butt Mustard, For Those Who Drive Automobiles

So I went to my hated Home Depot to get some screening stuff (can never find anything in there) and my car wouldn't start so am awaiting AAA with the car hood up and the parking space in front of me blocked with shopping carts. In the 11 minutes since I put up the hood, 6 different guys have asked if my car needed a jump. And some were with their wives. I was tempted but am pretty sure i need a new battery, so I'm going to let the guy install one.
My most hated HD is at Falkenburg and 60. No one in there knows shit about shit. The one at Mt Carmel and 60 was nice, and my new one on Bloomingdale is also pretty good.

When you get a chance, bother your regular mechanic for him to check everything out. A dying battery can kill an older alternator. Same thing can happen the other way as well, an alternator can take out a battery.
This heat will take batteries out as well.

Thanks, I will get it looked at. Husband thinks it's the heat, and the battery was pretty old. It starts up fine now, but I have noticed lately that when I put the headlights on when the AC is already on, it blows a little less, like I can hear it a little quieter. And then when the headlights get turned off, the AC fan gets louder again.

My S Carolina cousin is a car mechanic, and he told me that with my Hyundai, there is a belt that is prone to fail at about 100,000 miles, so he recommended getting it changed at 75000, which I'm about at now. It's some serpentine belt(?) that goes through the whole engine apparently, I forget and will ask him. But I wondered if that was getting worn and somehow related.

Sounds like the alternator is struggling.

Alternator is run off of a belt, could be, it's probably the same belt running the AC compressor. Google "service intervals" for your particular car.

100k sounds more like a timing belt than a serpentine belt. Easy enough to get them mixed up if you don't know cars.

That's why it was originally thinking, but the AC/alternator interference could be other belt related.

@Ledboots
Does your headlight brightness change when changing fan speeds, or when toggling the AC on/off with constant fan speed?

You might be surprised.
Nah. I've put two belts on my truck. Had it for 175k now.

Hell, never changed the belt on Susie and its still tight enough to turn the motor over by twisting the fan.

Edit: but I don't think there are any manufacturers that recommend that interval for a serpentine belt.

You should check your fan clutch if it's that seized. :p

Or your compression...

I have a few pics from COTA with the Datsun, the Nissan and the wife.

edit: it made me pretty proud that both cars made it from Albuquerque to Austin and back (about 1300 miles) without a hiccup. I've turned pretty much every bolt on both of them fuckers.

Difference in a base engine?

In any case, no. Full on finger-choppee underhood

Edit: no shroud either
I dunno, I haven't looked at the slant 6, because V8 MURRICA FREEDUM.

But it came with a clutch fan and a shroud. Both of which are going back on, after experimenting with a Mishmoto controller/efan setup recommended by another idiot.

It is probably that, he told me a long time ago when I got the car and I am clueless about engines. I'm going to take it in to the mechanic this week. Thank you
