Put a ceramic planter pot base covered in foil int eh water pan, instead of using water, and you'll never have to clean it.

Too small to really use for anything. I'd suggest 18.5".

Or get a Bradley like @tre has. Yeah, it's electric and sacrilegious to the barbecue gods or whatever, but it makes good food (like the bacon he just posted) and it's stupid easy to use.

I've thought about buying a propane smoker. Because sometimes you need to BBQ when it's too windy for the charcoal smoker.

It's really not a lot of work at all. No more than cooking anything else. You could smoke something while you're brewing beer for example.
